Planning Commission approves new Waffle House for Second Ave.

The Opelika Planning Commission granted a conditional use request during its meeting last Tuesday for the construction of a new Waffle House at 501 2nd Ave., the former home of Fred’s Super Dollar. The restaurant is slated to open this summer.
The commission also granted a conditional use request for the establishment of the Curtis House, a non-profit community service facility started by Opelika native Jeremy Gray to meet the mental and physical needs of citizens in the Jeter area.
In other business, the commission:
– approved a preliminary and final plat for two lots in the Brookwood Subdivision, located at 307 Brookwood Court
– approved a preliminary and final plat for one lot in the Anderson Lakes Subdivision at the 4500 block of Anderson Road
– approved a preliminary and final plat for four lots in the Torbert Subdivision, located at 400 Columbus Parkway
– approved a preliminary and final plat for 63 lots in the National Village Subdivision located on Eagle Trail
– approved a preliminary and final plat for 40 lots in the Mill Lakes Subdivision, located at the 2800 block of Highway 280
– granted a conditional use request for the development of an office space and warehouse at 2004 Yarbrough Drive
– amended the 2030 comprehensive plan map to allow for a rezoning of land at 400 Columbus Parkway for the construction of a tractor supply and repair company
– amended a zoning ordinance to allow automobile repair in the Gateway Corridor from a not-allowed use to conditional
– approved a rezoning of the property at 2500 Cunningham Drive to be changed from residential to commercial
– approved a vacation of right-of-way on the south portion of North 22nd Street.
